His art was influenced by the mill-working communities in which he grew up, where life centered on the church, the family and work.
His first solo exhibition was at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 1974.
Awards include the New York State Foundation for the Arts, for painting in 1999; the New York State Foundation for the Arts for Drawings and Prints in 1997, and the New York State Council on the Arts, CAPS Grant.
