George Elson McLean

  • Born in September 1939, in Toronto
  • Grew up in a low-income section of the city and received his only formal art training at Northern Vocational School.
  • While a teenager, he attended some drawing classes at the Royal Ontario Museum where he met Terry Shortt, one of Canada’s premier wildlife artists.
  • Began his career as an illustrator and then moved to painting for galleries.
  • Known and highly respected for his realistic portrayal of wildlife subjects in their natural settings.
