Born in March, 1926 in St. Louis, MO and later moved to Louisville, KY
First studied art while at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Also studied at the University of Missouri and Ecole des beaux-arts in Paris.
Lived, married, and studied in Europe until 1956.
He began to incorporate into his paintings a geometric images with simplified organic forms which came to characterize his style.
He received the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 1976 and a National Endowment for the Arts Award in 1984.
