Following graduation from La Martiniere College in Calcutta in 1948, he went to England to attend Bournemouth College of Art in order to pursue painting, sculpture, architecture, and theatre design.
Became resident senior designer at the Oxford Playhouse Theatre
Moved to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Louvre
While in Europe, much of his work was completed outdoors to capture the effects of changes in light and atmosphere as he worked. In 1968 he relocated to the United States where he completed much of his work inside his studio, relying on his memory for images or on photographs of certain subjects.
